WALDORF, Md., Aug. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Community Bank of the Chesapeake is proud to support Empowerhouse in Fredericksburg, Virginia with a donation of funds from its "Casual for a Cause" program. Casual for a Cause is an annual initiative created by Community Bank to support local organizations while allowing employees to dress casually for the summer months. The bank selects organizations that serve the local community to be recipients of Casual for a Cause funds each year.

Community Bank employees participate in Casual for a Cause by making a donation, which entitles them to "casual dress" from May 1 through Labor Day. This year, contributions to Casual for a Cause totaled $6,500. In addition to Empowerhouse, the bank will also donate to the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association, a membership organization for volunteer fire departments throughout Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties.
"One in every four women in the United States will experience severe violence at the hands of an intimate partner, and every five days, a Virginian is killed due to domestic violence," said Kathy Anderson, Executive Director for Empowerhouse. "Empowerhouse works to build relationships with local healthcare providers through outreach, training and material support to help them uncover situations of abuse and in turn request intervention from us. Community Bank of the Chesapeake's financial support will help us to further strengthen those relationships so that together, we can help victims and their children plan for their safety."
Empowerhouse is a nonprofit, 501(c)3, Virginia-accredited domestic violence program that serves Fredericksburg, Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford. The organization runs assistance and educational programs including a secret shelter, 24-hour hotline (540-373-9373), victim advocacy, children's services, support groups for victims, teens and children, Spanish language and culturally relevant services, transition in-place housing assistance, court advocacy, accompaniment to court and health care visits, teen dating violence prevention, as well as batterer intervention programs.
